The way in which a glass capacitor was constructed allowed it to provide the highest level of reliability, stability and predictability. Glass capacitors were constructed using three materials; a glass dielectric and case, aluminum foil electrodes and wire leads. In addition, glass capacitors are constructed so that there are no pressure connections to come loose and no solder connections to melt.

Since AVX/Corning Glass Capacitors offered the highest level of performance and reliability; they are often found in applications where failure is not an option. 26 Series Blue Ribbon Connectors- Friday, April 25, 2014

This connector was developed by Amphenol in 1950 to provide rugged heavy duty interconnections where larger gauge wires must be used and size is not a limiting factor. Based on one of the oldest and most reliable mechanical principles, the wedge, Amphenol Blue Ribbon connectors provide positive mating action in rack & panel, cable to chassis and cable to cable applications. They are used extensively in industrial controls, test equipment, communication equipment and a wide variety of control devices. Blue Ribbon connectors are available as inserts with molded-in plates with either pin or barrier polarization: barrier polarization types with keyed shells and latch type housings with side or end cable outlets.

            The unique gold plated “ribbon” like contacts used in this style of connector provide high individual contact pressure combined with low insertion and extraction force requirements. Positive contact under vibration and good wiping action are other advantages of the spring contact construction of Blue Ribbon contacts. Male contacts are supported for their full length by their dielectric material; female contacts are recessed and fully protected. Contact terminals accommodate up to #16 stranded conductors.

            Diallyl phthalate is the dielectric material used in all Blue Ribbon connectors. It is the blue color of this material that lead to the designation of “Blue Ribbon” for this style of connector. This material combines the specific requirements of nearly perfect dimensional stability, high insulation resistance in the presence of high temperature and high arc resistance. Not being dependant on contact arrangement, visual alignment is unnecessary and the ribbon contact principle itself eliminates the possibility of bent contacts that prevent or make plug-in difficult. These qualities are just a few of the reasons why this style has become a popular choice with engineers.

A capacitor is an electrical device characterized by its capacity to store an electrical charge. A trimming capacitor is a type of capacitor that has variable capacitance and allows for fine adjustments. While the capacitance of a trimming capacitor is set during the initial build of an application, these variable capacitors may be intentionally changed mechanically or electronically.

In order to change the capacitance of a trimming capacitor, it is important to understand their physical make up. Trimming capacitors contain two conductive plates and a dielectric. The two conductive plates surround the dielectric. By moving, shifting or alternating one of the conductive plates; any desired capacitance within the physical dimensions may be achieved.

Trimming capacitors are often used when size and performance is critical. Often time, they are found in LC Circuits, which are used for generating or identifying a particular frequency. Electronic devices, such as radio equipment, are examples of applications where you may find trimming capacitors.

Foil tantalum capacitors can come in polarized or non-polarized varieties. The foil comes in two styles: etched and plain. These capacitors can be found with operating voltage up to 300 volts and capacitance as high as 580uF (micro Farads.) Foil tantalum capacitors will work in temperatures from -55°C to 85°C and even up to 125°C with a derated voltage.

You can get high capacitance and high voltage in a small case when you use foil tantalum capacitors. When you need high reliability along with high voltage or high capacitance MIL-C-3965 foil tantalum capacitor can be your answer.
